Which rubbers can produce automotive sealant strips?
Automotive sealing strips mainly include sealing strips for car doors and windows, engine hood, trunk, etc., achieving the effects of waterproofing, dust prevention, sound insulation, and shock absorption. In actual production, automotive sealing strips have certain requirements for the mechanical properties, ozone resistance, oil resistance, low temperature resistance, elasticity, etc. of the rubber used. So, which rubber can be used to produce automotive sealing strips? Do we need to add skeleton materials to automotive sealant strips produced mainly from rubber, and which material is better?
(1) Raw rubber: In actual production, automotive sealing strips require increasingly high weather and ozone resistance from rubber. Traditional natural rubber, butadiene rubber, styrene butadiene rubber, and chloroprene rubber cannot meet the needs of automotive sealing strips. Ethylene propylene rubber is mainly copolymerized with ethylene and propylene, while EPDM is a copolymer of ethylene, propylene, and a small amount of non conjugated dienes. The main chain is composed of chemically stable saturated hydrocarbons, with excellent ozone resistance, heat resistance, and weather resistance. It is the main raw material for producing automotive sealing strips.
Using a small amount of butyl rubber in the ethylene propylene rubber sealing strip for vehicles can further alleviate the problem of aging, hardening, and brittleness of the sealing strip, and extend its service life. In actual production, there are many varieties of automotive sealant strips HYL16Y5YEEWFM, among which some require oil resistance. In this case, it is recommended to use nitrile rubber with excellent oil resistance, or to use nitrile rubber in combination with chloroprene rubber.
(2) Recycled rubber: EPDM recycled rubber is mainly processed from EPDM machine head rubber, unvulcanized mixed rubber, and waste EPDM products, retaining the basic performance characteristics of EPDM rubber. It is resistant to high and low temperatures, ozone, and weather, and can be used alone or in combination with EPDM rubber to produce automotive sealing strips, effectively reducing raw material costs. In addition, butyl recycled adhesive and butyl green recycled adhesive can also be used in the production of corresponding automotive sealing strips.
Skeleton materials are important materials in many rubber products, mainly including fiber fabrics, metal materials, etc. The skeleton materials in automotive sealing strips mainly include steel strip, steel wire braided strip, and aluminum strip. The prices of stretched steel and aluminum strips in steel strips are higher, while the prices of punched single strips, bridge strips, and steel wire woven strips are lower. When using EPDM rubber or recycled EPDM rubber to produce automotive sealing strips, it is necessary to select suitable sealing strips according to actual needs and further optimize product quality.
In actual production, EPDM rubber and recycled EPDM rubber are the main raw materials for producing automotive sealant strips. Choosing appropriate rubber additives can reduce costs and improve product quality. In the future, the editor will continue to share with you the formula design of automotive sealant strips.
